EDITOR NOTES
This is a beta release. See Related Links below for the last stable release.
DESCRIPTION

Synergy places three buttons to control iTunes in your menubar: previous track, next track, and play/pause; as well as providing you with visual feedback about the currently playing tune.

The Synergy controls, together with the ability to control iTunes via system-wide Hot Key combinations, mean that Synergy provides the fastest way of skipping between songs when using the keyboard or the mouse; all this without having to switch to iTunes or accessing its Dock menu.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 4.1.1:
  • Qualified for use with iTunes 9.0.2.
  • Changed status from "beta" to "final".
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

BUZZWORM  I used to recommend this software to my Mac clients, but found soon realized it wouldn't launch all the time. Spending time troubleshooting a $7 program wasn't worth it and no free updates has made me runaway. Why bother when you can get YouControl for free? http://bit.ly/1PERj0

TIMHERE  Have used this app for YEARS. But to have to pay for what is essentially a minor update - compatibility with Snow Leopard - seems incredibly tight. I'll go elsewhere.

JON555  This developer charges for what is essentially bug fixes. There have been no notable changes since 2005. The app itself isn't bad, but for a $7 menu bar with a few buttons, you'd expect more. At least update the UI/buttons to something more modern. Don't let the 4 and a half star rating fool you, as most of those high ratings are from 2005.

BRADY J. FREY  Just downloaded it on Snow Leopard - haven't had any issues in 6 hours of heavy usage, so I bought it right away. Exactly what I wanted, thank you!

MAX KAMIR  I agree with GuillaumeK. I just donloaded the app and regret that I didn't keep the old one. There is nothing new, the old version I had worked well.

You dbl click on the icon and it crashes the older version with no warning about licencing and you can't recover the old one...

Actually, I have it on Time Machine...

EDIFIED  Nevermind. First it gave me false hope by saying it was registered. After relaunching it it tells me my serial is invalid because it was purchased before Nov 2006.

Fail.

EDIFIED  I just tried my February 2006 serial and it still works. Cheers Wincent if that's on purpose.

KOSOVAR1  This 4 1/2 star overall rating for Synergy is such complete BS! I paid for a couple of Synergy upgrades throughout the Tiger years and all I ever got from it was frustration and a lot of wasted time. It only worked between boots if you loaded it manually. Now version 4 has been released and it ACTUALLY WORKS this time. Problem is, you're forced to buy it yet again if you want to use it with Snow Leopard. Who can say that it won't break again in a few weeks if you buy it and the developer's record of fixing the non-loading bug is abysmal. Plus, like the other commenter pointed out, there have been practically no significant feature additions. SO, Wincent has this little operation going on, forcing people to buy Synergy over and over again, if they want to keep it working, except that, in my experience, it almost never worked and this lazy developer isn't even decent enough to offer a discounted upgrade price for users who paid for the aggravation of twinking and testing various tricks to coax the previous versions to perform as advertised. Besides these major flaws, Synergy is a great concept, and very useful if only it were a reliable utility and the developer would treat previous paying customers right.

NORAA  This is the first update that I know of that has required the user to pay for it...I've had a license for Synergy since 2003 and never once had to pay for an update. Not sure why you kept buying the new version when you clearly did not have to...

ELEGRAPHY  Same here, since the first day I bought my copy of Synergy back in 2004, never once Wincent had ask me to pay for his updates. Since I only have a PPC Mac, I guess I won't need to pay him again until I get an intel Mac :)

GUILLAUMEK  Here is a link to Synergy Classic 3.5.5a, the last version without the license pop-up.

It works flawlessly with Snow Leopard. Time Machine be blessed.
