DESCRIPTION
Vendetta Online is a massively multiplayer game that permits thousands of players to interact as the pilots of spaceships in a vast universe. Users may build their characters in any direction they desire, becoming rich captains of industry, military heroes, or outlaws. A fast-paced, realtime "twitch" style combat model gives intense action, coupled with the backdrop of RPG gameplay in a massive online galaxy. Three major player factions form a delicate balance of power, with several NPC sub-factions creating situations of economic struggle, political intrigue and conflict. The completely persistent universe and detailed storyline add to the depth of immersion, resulting in a unique online experience. ERIKHAGSTROM  If you're feeling interested, try it and see how you like it. I did and got hooked. Great atmosphere, tight and friendly community, extensive player/developer interaction and constant updates makes for an impressive game.

GARY THRELFALL  Well, I've had a couple of cracks at Vendetta over the last few years.

    1. Why, if I have enough money, can I not buy what the hell I like ? Just like the real world.

Why do I have to spend aeon's shooting robots and other people I have nothing particularly against, just to raise some arbitrary rating ?

    2. The same old same old, yup, the ones who HAVE spent their entire life getting a good enough rating to get a decent ship, sit around warp points shooting the weaker players, who then loose ratings that would help them get a better ship and have a chance of defending themselves.

If you are going to do a space sim, look VERY CLOSELY at Elite, after all, you owe it EVERYTHING.

    Rant over.

RANDY12345  While I really like and enjoy this type of "space" game. Sometimes I just want to have a game to fly around and shoot down other spaceships. Not having to deal with all the politics of joining a group, clan, race, etc. is all I want to do sometimes. And buy improvements/enhancements for my ship...

Is there any type of "space" flying game like this anymore? Anything that will run on a 24" aluminum Imac?

    Thanks!

PENNYHEAD1  This isn't spaceships but WWII airplanes. It's really fun and sounds exactly what you're looking for except that it uses airplanes instead of spaceships http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15496/osx-skyfighters-1945

PIETRO CRISTOFOLI  4 people develop and run this game.

Guild developers are not yet prepared for a proper launch, they are waiting for a more complete build.

But their MMOFPS has absolutely no rough edges. The engine is rock solid, it runs on multiple platforms (the Mac version supports OpenGL multi-threading on multi-core CPUs and the framerate is incredibly steady on all OSes).

Marvellous community. Give it a try.

ORION MK. V  Sadly, VO does nothing for me. Nothing wrong with it except it just doesn't raise the bar visually or mechanically and feels clunky and unrefined. Since there's a fee EVE Online does much more to create a modern feel to genre with multiplayer.

BLACKOMEGA  I've always been a 'space' game fan from Elite on the BBC B to Frontier and Terminus on the Mac but untill now there hasnt been a multi player version.

This IS it. Elite for the 21st century not just mindless NPC's to fight against but other real live people. Constantly being updated with new ships, missions and just well... tons of stuff.

3 main races to choose from but dozens of factions and guilds to get involved with. Be a pirate, trader, hero or whatever you feel its a totally free universe.

Free for first 8 hours too see if you like it then for $10 a month it cant be beaten.

Link seems a little slow better to d/l from the site at

INCARNATE  Our.. club? All we ask for is a username, password and email address, and the latter only because people forget their passwords. Vendetta Online is an online game (like, say, World of Warcraft), not a single-player game that you download and play alone. A login and password is necessary for any Massively Multiplayer Online game (MMO), it's how your personal characters and game-related information are stored by the server.

Everything about the trial is free, no strings attached, no credit card required. But creating a basic login is pretty much a necessity.

ORION MK. V  Funny, I think EV Nova is a brilliant and entertaining game, but it's not story driven, it's about exploration and acquiring ships. The Polycon plug-in changes it into something awesome. Not everyone's cup-o-joe.

INCARNATE  Well, for instance, what exact type of Mac you have, what version of OS X you're running, and so on. For example, there was a problem with the game on 10.2.8, but that's been recently fixed; and if we knew that was the problem we could have helped you. The majority of our userbase is mac-based, and the game is regularly run on everything from slow G3s to brand-new quad-core Intel machines. Our users generally consider our game to be extremely stable, and in the rare case where it isn't, we're happy to figure out why. But since the cases are rare, we can only debug the problems if people are willing to report them in detail.

ALREADYTAKEN  I've tried Vendetta a few times, it is a great game and deserves most of the praise it's getting here. But it still needs more content and variety to keep me coming back. The P2P dogfighting is fun but not worth $10 month. Which leads me to another gripe. With games like this one I'll often dip into them for a while, then go away then come back, it's about time developers developed another payment method! How about paying for time actually used instead of per month. Then you might see many many more people like myself who don't want to commit to paying a monthly fee but who're prepared to pay to play.
