DESCRIPTION
atMonitor is the most advanced monitoring tool for Mac OS X that displays system activity in real-time. It is designed to allow quick assessment of computer's state, but it is powerful enough to make it a core utility in anyone's system troubleshooting toolkit.
atMonitor offers a better alternative to Apple's own "Activity Monitor" and combines the best of the features of many other existing monitoring utilities. It also adds an extensive list of unique features of its own. In addition to the standard CPU, GPU, VRAM, FPS, Disk and Network info, atMonitor allows interaction with processes, setting up triggers, logging, purging RAM and much more.
There are three different ways atMonitor can display the monitored values:
- in the menu bar
- in the floating window on the desktop
- in the dock icon
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.1.2:
- [bugfix] Add signal handler to helper process to imrpove robustness.
- [bugfix] Do not use temperature sensors that report erroneous values.
- Many other small bug fixes and improvements.
REQUIREMENTS
- Mac OS X 10.5 or later
- A modern video card is required for monitoring GPU activity.

NONTROPPO Wow, a really nice app. Very useful graphical display and very low resource usage and stable. I normally use iStat Menus, but sometimes would prefer something more like a normal app I can run and not have to uninstall if I don't want it running. This does the job perfectly. DOOBIEXX Great app, through and through. Free so please donate to keep this app going. Offers many extra features that activity monitor doesn't. Could be a complete replacement or a supplement but your sure to find something you like out of it. Very functional and well laid out and intuitive for the average user to grasp full control over their "machine." Thank you atMornitor team! (Version 2.0.1)

TRONDAH How do I make it run in the background without a dock icon? I just want it to sit in the menubar. (Version 2.0)

JIMBLU that's a really great question. on the dock icon i do not put a check next to "keep in dock" but it still shows on restart. and when i remove it from Login Items, well then the app doesn't start up at all. i can't figure out the answer but i'm sure the developer will fix it soon. i can tell the developer has been busy making many UI changes. but how hard can it be to make an application icon not show up in the dock? -- it's done all the time. i'm sure there's some third-party app the could do it-- but i would just wait til the developer gets around to it. i get the feeling this latest incarnation of atMonitor opened a whole new can of worms. atMonitor is a full application, which uses UI (ie, TopWindow) that make it impossible to be implemented as background only application. Background only applications have very limited access to UI. atMonitor is a replacement for "Activity Monitor" and as such will remain a full application. However, if there is enough interest, we can create "atMonitor lite" with less features (no TopWindow, no FloatingWindow, etc.) but with menubar display and no DockIcon. (Version 2.0)

TRONDAH I think a lot of people would be interested in that, considering your competition iStat Menus :) BTW, the temperature is showing as 4-5 degrees lower than iStat, which is the correct one? (Version 2.0)

JIMBLU this has become my favorite application of this type. i've been a macuser for around 20 years so i've used many of them as i've wondered the hallowed halls of versiontracker and now the better mactracker. i'm not a developer or anything like that, but i like to keep an eye on things like cpu, ram, network, etc. --and i can sure see how every developer would love and need this app. man where to start... this little application is so customizable in every way and does so much... --i'm a minimalist and i love how i can shrink this thing down to my single favorite process in the menu bar and then expand it to the favorite ones of my choosing--collapse/expand. and the nice intuitive options to further change the menu bar view by right or left clicking, depending on how you got your mouse set up, right under each process is very nice indeed. --the wealth of information in the drop-downs under each menu bar option is perfect-- not too much, not too little. --very complete and easily understandable information under the Net View drop-down --more complete than even iStat Menus --essential information. --the ability to purge my ram under the Ram View --helpful in so many ways. for what this application does in the menu bar, it is so customizable it has a small learning curve and it might cause some users to shy away from it. the drop- downs are not only filled with helpful and essential information but they are useful too-- like the option to purge your ram. --the floating window is just as nice if you like that type of thing. --the dock icon is also customizable. if you like to keep your dock viewable, you can keep an eye on the cpu in the menu bar and the ram in the dock with the smallest possible loss of screen real estate. --or vice -versa, or an amazing combination of two processes. if you want to use up desktop space the Top Window is as thorough as it gets -- this is where i imagine it shines as a developer app. i use it for the occasional kill of an app that's hanging--but each process in the Top View has six columns of information with it in the bottom half of the window and the top half has everything you could possibility want to know about what is highlighted in the bottom half, and all its associated files-- all in a window that is very, very well organized. above that is a row of seven buttons with common and useful functions-- like kill. ...a nice search window. atMonitor's application drop-downs on the right side of your screen are not wasted either. there's a Utility drop-down from where you can launch Apple's Activity Monitor, along with many other Apple Developer Utilities if you have them installed. also there is a System Info drop-down with geeky developer information about your system, some of which you might need to know at one time or another --like how your mac is connecting to the internet or your Startup Services -- (Version 1.19)

DJEFIS Sorry, but I don't understand how the world is heavy like a stone. I have seen five Star for MenuMeters that is a Dinosaur compared to atMonitor . . . . Which is the only problem? That atMonotor is so fine and Professional that, probably one day, it will become shareware (?). But, at the moment it is free and it could show you how should be a software of this category. We must choose not to endear us to the past.

JIMBLU nice improvements with the themes. very very nice. i did spend about an hour making the menu bar activity viewer black and white and gray so it would look nice with the other apple icons. when i downloaded this new one it said my prefs were no good anymore. no matter-- i am really liking the text theme. this app is so great. now just get rid of those dotted bars that separate cpu, ram, net, etc. and make it so i can make the text size 12 under net view--i'll stretch the window and make it work. could it show Airport as well as a wired connection too (at the same time)? the pref the tells it to look up application descriptions @ iusethis dot com gives me all sorts of warning signs in the Top Window--mostly about root stuff-- i figure that's because apple's inner gut root stuff is not posted at iusethis dot com. in my last review of this app it cut off half my post, but it was like you read my mind as to my request. i guess everybody will shut up now about this not being as pretty as iStat Pro/Menus. i know it's not your intention because this app is a developer app and does so much more than iState pro, but you are blowing away my all-time favorite widget. thanks so much for making this application-- you are obviously a developer's developer.

FALSTAFFA I have used MenuMeters and iStat Menus for years, I recently began using atMonitor (V 1.60) and find it very useful and elegant, while I prefer not to employ its Menu bar display capability and instead use the floating activity viewer window, I would like to be able to toggle it between vertical and horizontal display at will via customizable keyboard shortcuts. Other than this missing convenience feature, I find it to be an excellent tool amongst its peers, overall atMonitor is a highly recommendable tool. (Version 1.60)

DOOBIEXX I have to say, I have used this app for a long time now, not as a complete replacement for istat but for it's other great features like it's quick access to utilities and also the logging. Heck, you can't buy it yet. It is essentially freeware until the final release. I don't think this app deserves the criticism below. The developer has been updating this app constantly and with every update we get more features with less system resources needed. Memory usage is way too much, but for now it is still a beta... let the dev continue to perfect his product before charging for it like many other developers. Look at it from a different angle. It's not nearly as bad as you claim. You can't ask for more than constant updates, which the app gets, so.... I like it, and I think it has a very bright future. Give the dev a chance, quit with the 1 star ratings and give the dev inspiration, not discouraging remarks. My opinion, nothing more, nothing less. (Version 1.18)
