DESCRIPTION

MUMenu is a menubar item application that will check periodically for daily Mac OS X software updates at MacUpdate. You'll be able to browse small descriptions of the updated products, go to More Info pages, and download them. Highlighted updates (Hot Picks) are highlighted in red, and applications that are already installed on your Mac will display its appropriate icon. When a new update is posted, MUMenu icon in the menu bar will change color.

Problems? If MUMenu does not perform properly in any way, quit it and trash its preferences file (do a Find for "com.macupdate.mumenu.plist"), then relaunch MUMenu.

Note: Requests for additional features will not be followed through unless many people request the same feature. We don't want to bloat the software. We take the 37signals.com approach to software. Lean and mean.

LARRYMCJ  I will obviously keep using MUMenu because it does alert me to updates for installed apps. HOWEVER...I can't be the only person that notices the menu bar icon turns yellow (falsely) about ten times a day and nothing is updated...they just want you to look at the specials at the bottom of the list.

M2  Am I the only one who doesn't want to install Rosetta to run MUMenu either?

MISHA  Version 2.1.2 is a universal binary. You must be using an older version -- please upgrade.

PINK PANTHER  It was only when MuMenu went dead for a couple of days that I have realized how much I am used to this tiny elegant application. This is then easily transformed into 5 stars on the Pink Panther scale.

LIFTERX  It would be *nice* if you could limit the license types (not just show them all), and also if you could just limit the software to list what you have in your watch list.

KRYSIA  IA. I would rather limit it to the items in my watched list.

TOMDOHERTY  Having experienced what life is like without this app I've decided it deserves 5 stars now that it's back in action. Well done to the 'fixer' person(s).

MARKUS  Now using this version for a day, I must say that the old one was better. Ok, it has less configuration possibilities but it's not so obstrusive as the rectent one.

I do also miss the possibility to check for a program , which's name I have in the clipboard, with just one click!

Though I like the new menu bar icons, I think the MacUpdate arrow would be visually more pleasing, if it would show the complete MacUpdate logo (with the "m"). So why not make the menuicons space just a little wider, so it would also be easier to reach and open!

GEORGE PAPHITIS  Tried using MUMenu 2.1.1 on my G4 Yikes with OS 10.2.8 but I ran into the following problems:

1) Quits unexpectedly at times

2) Not running when computer awakes from sleep

3) Preferences don't stick after restarts, or relaunching of the application

For me I had to revert back to v. 1.2 Fortunately I had an archived copy since it is no longer available from MacUpdate.

Also for me, and 4% of the other males out there with red/green problems, the red font to indicate a highlighted item (instead of the dash as in v.1.2) is very hard to distiguish from the black.

ANONYMOUS  The problem is at your end.

Quit MUMenu.

Delete the .plist file ( com.macupdate.mumenu.plist is the exact filename )

Launch MUMenu and reset your preferences for it.

SKAB  There are proper Menu Extras and there's crap. This one is no Menu Extra.

It's simply unusable. You can't move it in the menu bar, it doesn't get loaded automatically by the SystemUIServer, short, it's crap. And now don't come with "custom Menu Extras are not supported by Apple", there are tons of Menu Extras out there and they are working just fine.

Would be ok for a first version, but as a replacement for V1, which already *was* a real Menu Extra, this is just inacceptable.

ERESPENDEJO  Your review is worthless and ignorant.

MUMenu is stable beyond any shadow of a doubt, yet you give it one star for stability.

MUMenu is free so it represents a good value and not a one star value.

MUMenu is easier than easy to use yet you again give a one star value.

You are a total fool.

ANONYMOUS  No, the review IS worthless.

The person does not know the difference between an application for the menubar (which MUMenu now is) and a menu extra (which is not an application).

There are lots and lots of APPLICATIONS for the menubar and I use a few of them. WHAT A SURPRISE that they can not be command-dragged to where you want them! THEY ARE NOT DESIGNED TO HAVE THIS CAPABILITY and futhermore can NOT have this capability. What you can do with APPLICATIONS for the menubar is arrange their order in System Preferences > Accounts > Startup Items in the order that you want them to appear in your menubar. But any 10-year old knows this, even SOME adults know it.
